Previously known as 'Derbyshire Domestic Violence and Sexual Abuse Service' and 'North Derbyshire's Women's Aid'. Established in 1985, when we opened our first refuge, The Elm Foundation (reg. charity no 1007317) works across North Derbyshire to end Domestic Abuse and support men, women and children who have experienced it. We believe everyone has the right to live their life free from fear, violence and abuse.

Story

CET CSR are holding a bake sale on Thursday 13th March in 7th floor kitchen, to raise money for the Elm Foundation.

This foundation has worked with domestic abuse victims for over 40 years, adopting a needs-led, trauma-informed approach to provide a variety of specialised services and refugee housing etc to support victims of such abuse.

This cause is extremely important, as 1in 4 women the UK have been abused at least once in their lifetime, and a woman dies every 5 days at the hands of their abusive partner or ex. Furthermore, the Elm Foundation estimates 130,000 children are currently living in homes where there is a high risk of domestic violence.

2.3 million people were victims in the year ending March 2024, yet the police only recorded 1.4 million cases of domestic abuse that year, which shows how important funding charities such as the Elm Foundation is to help victims who do not feel safe going to the police.
