Honouring the Life of Clive “Barni” Barnacle – A Life Lived Full Throttle

Clive Barnacle — or as everyone still knows him, Barni — was born in 1960, and from the very beginning, he lived with purpose, laughter, and a fearless sense of adventure.

He had to give up driving. Then his business. And as time passed, even the most basic things — washing, eating, recognising familiar faces — slipped away. Within one week, he went from identifying people by their voices to not recognising anyone at all. Except for Danny — his best mate, his “bromance,” the friend he stood beside as best man just two years ago in April. That bond has endured, even when so much else has faded.

Barni’s story is one of fire and flair, of hard work, deep love, and undeniable spirit. From motocross tracks to dance floors, from power tools to powerful emotions — he lived loud, proud, and with an open heart. And while Alzheimer’s may have dimmed the light in his eyes, it will never take away the man he was — or the memories he gave to those lucky enough to know him.

In his younger days, Barni was the picture of style. With his fancy shoes, sharp shirts, and clouds of strong aftershave, he strutted through life like the boy about town with his mates Will , Stumpy & the other lads of Stratford. He loved football and rugby, fast bikes and louder banter, and he had a cheeky charm that made him unforgettable.

Barni isn’t just a character — Barni had talent and tenacity. As a young man, he raced his way into the top 35 motocross riders in the country. Motorbikes were in his blood, and as the years went by, his love shifted to the Harley Davidson and Ducati — powerful machines that matched his spirit. The roar of the engine was his escape, his joy, his freedom.

Barni was a hard grafter. He built a successful landscape gardening business, and served his community as a part-time fireman. Whether in the garden, or on call, Barni put in the work with pride.

Later in life, Barni discovered a new love: music and dancing. He could often be found at parties or out and about, lost in the rhythm, dancing like no one was watching. It wasn’t something people expected from the motocross daredevil or the no-nonsense landscaper — but once he got into it, he never stopped moving to the beat. He found joy there, energy, and something deeply personal in the music.

But his heart found its true home in February 2018, when he met Dee — the love of his life. It was instant. Within three months, by May, he was down on one knee. Their love was deep, playful, and real — the kind of bond that makes time stand still and fly by all at once.

Then in 2020, at the age of 60, the early signs of forgetfulness began to creep in. At first, they were small — a name, a moment, a detail. But by 2021, Barni was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s, a cruel and unrelenting disease that changed everything.

Barni’s journey through early-onset Alzheimer’s is devastating, but it has been met with unwavering love, humour, and strength from those closest to him. Now, as we honour the man who lived full throttle — who danced like no one was watching and loved like every moment counted — we’re asking for your support. Any contribution, no matter how small, will go toward celebrating his life with the same boldness and heart he continues gives to the world, despite his advancing dementia. Thank you for helping us honour Barni — a true original, remembered with laughter, love, and the roar of a Harley in the distance.
