We share our lives with cats. They bring happiness to millions of us every day. Yet too many cats don’t get the care and kindness they deserve. At Cats Protection we stand up for every cat to make life better for cats and the people who care for them.

Story

Help give Nelly and Nox a brighter future

When tiny Nelly and her brother Nox were found alone in a field, they were just four weeks old and desperately needed help.

Both kittens were severely underweight and had bloated tummies caused by worms. Nelly weighed only 365g, and her eyes were painfully infected. Without the farmer who found them and the veterinary care that followed, they were unlikely to have survived much longer.

After emergency treatment at West Ridge Veterinary Practice, the kittens came into the care of Cats Protection Barnstaple, continuing their treatment with Brannams Vets.

A difficult journey for little Nelly

For almost three months, Nelly needed medication, careful monitoring and devoted foster care. Despite antibiotics, pain relief and eye drops, her eyes could not be saved. Her left eye ruptured, and her right eye gradually lost its sight. Surgery to remove both eyes was her only option.

Through everything, Nelly remained an affectionate, playful little kitten with a remarkable determination to keep going.

Her fosterer Christine and Christine’s daughter Faith gave both kittens the love, reassurance and care they needed. Today, Nelly plays, pounces, jumps and runs around, adapting wonderfully to life without sight.

Her brother has been beside her every step of the way

Nelly and Nox share an incredibly close bond. Nox even accompanied his sister to her veterinary appointments, helping her feel safe.

After her operation, Nelly was distressed until a veterinary nurse placed her back beside her brother. With Nox close again, she began to purr.

Now 16 weeks old, this devoted pair deserve a calm, loving home where they can stay together and enjoy the happy lives they have fought so hard to reach.

Please help us cover the cost of their care

Nelly and Nox’s treatment has meant months of veterinary bills, medication, surgery and ongoing care.

Our volunteer-run branch relies on donations to fund this work. Your support will help us recover the cost of giving these two kittens the treatment they desperately needed and ensure we can be there for the next cat who needs us.

Every donation, whatever the amount, will make a difference. If you cannot donate, please help by sharing their story.

Thank you for helping us give cats like Nelly and Nox a chance to thrive.
