Story
Venezuela just can't catch a break.
Political instability.
Corruption-induced poverty.
Military attack leaving a mess behind.
And now, two magnitude 7 earthquakes within minutes of each other.
At the time of this writing, over 65,000 people are still missing in the collapsed building and over 2,000 people are confirmed dead. Yet this is being largely ignored by the media and by powerful countries that could be of far more help than the token aid they have sent. Their failure is our call to action, and that's where Doctors Without Borders come in.
Doctors Without Borders (known in French-speaking nations as "MSF", Médecins Sans Frontières) is a highly respected international relief organization that sends medical teams into war zones, humanitarian disasters and natural disasters, independent of governments and governmental corruption. They do not take sides; they save lives. And in Venezuela, that is exactly what they are doing, right now.
Because of the recent instability, Doctors Without Borders was already on the ground in Venezuela providing care to people left behind. They were in place, and responded in the first hours, the first minutes after the earth shook. They are moving more resources to Venezuela, continuing the simple, basic mission: save lives. But they are in desperate need of financial support. With so many wars going on, so many other disasters, their resources are strained.
We are here, though. For them. As they have been for so many others.
