In June myself and my partner will be heading up to the North of Scotland to begin the 1600km, two week journey down the length of the UK on my bike whilst wearing a PS7000 breathing apparatus set.
Along the way I will be staying at fire stations and meeting friends and family for various legs of the journey. If you fancy joining me just send me a message.
Why the firefighters charity?
As a firefighter, I've witnessed firsthand the intense and often distressing realities of our job. Those experiences took a toll on my mental health, leading me to take time off to heal and process the challenges I faced.
This journey from John O'Groats to Land's End, with stops at fire stations along the route, is more than just a physical challenge. It's a mission to raise awareness for mental health support within the firefighting community. The Firefighters Charity provides crucial assistance for those struggling with mental health issues, and I want to ensure that no firefighter feels alone in their battle.
By sharing my story and undertaking this ride, I hope to spread awareness and encourage others to seek the help they need. Together, we can break the stigma surrounding mental health in the emergency services and ensure that support is accessible to all.
The Firefighters Charity in the UK provides a wide range of services aimed at supporting firefighters and their families. I wish I had utilised their support in the past, and -if I ever need help and support again- I know the charity will be there for me. Some of the servies they can help with are;
Physical Rehabilitation: They offer specialized physiotherapy, rehabilitation programs, and treatments for injuries and physical ailments that firefighters might face.
Mental Health Support: They provide counseling, therapy, and mental health programs to help firefighters cope with stress, trauma, and other mental health challenges.
Health and Wellbeing Services: They offer a variety of wellbeing programs, including health assessments, lifestyle coaching, and support for maintaining overall physical and mental health.
Respite and Recovery: They have residential centers that offer a place for firefighters to recover, relax, and rejuvenate, supporting both physical and mental healing.
Thank you for joining me on this journey and for supporting a cause that’s close to my heart.
