BDW South West are fundraising for our new charity of the year Star Scheme! Star scheme are a local charity who link with rugby clubs and work with schools, social services and parole boards to identify young people aged 5-18 who have experienced ACEs (adverse childhood experiences – household, environmental or community traumas).
People who have experienced 4 or more ACEs are:
• 11 times more likely to experience drug abuse
• 85% more likely to contract a terminal illness
• 4.5 times more likely to develop depression
• 14 times more likely to attempt suicide
Star scheme aim to counteract the effects of ACEs through rugby as it encourages teamwork, leadership, provides safe and nurturing relationships, gives young people a sense of purpose and develops physical and emotional wellbeing.
All associated costs for the young people to attend rugby training is covered (transport, kit, food, club membership, tour costs for player and parents, coaching, community liaison office and family support)
