Barry's fundraiser for Motor Neurone Disease Association

Barry Mckenna is raising money for Motor Neurone Disease Association

Team: Team fundraising for Motor Neurone Disease Association

The Great Bike Ride! · 8 May 2026

Motor Neurone Disease moves fast. It takes away time, it takes away independence and it has no cure. Every day we support people affected by MND. We fund ground-breaking research. We campaign for better care. We’re here for everyone who needs us. Because with MND, every day matters.

Story

My Great Bike Ride Challenge!!

In what can only be described as a moment of questionable judgement, I’ve agreed to take part in The Great Bike Ride challenge with my “caveman-like” gym friends to raise money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

Over the weekend of 8–10 May, 18 of us will be cycling from Milton Keynes to Gloucester, on to Bristol, and then all the way back again. The plan? Take in two Premiership Rugby matches along the way, enjoy a few well-earned beverages, and (most importantly) raise as much money as possible for a brilliant cause.

There will be a lot of miles, a lot of sore legs, and almost certainly a fair amount of complaining from the few men who are not used to having a bike saddle wedged up their backside!!

But the pain will be worth it. Motor Neurone Disease is a devastating illness that has affected so many people, including those close to me. This is our way of doing something positive to support the incredible work around research, care, and support.

If you’re able to donate, it would genuinely mean a lot. Every pound raised will help make the suffering in our legs (and backsides) feel slightly more worthwhile!

Also worth noting — my last outing on a bike, I ended up in A&E needing stitches in my face, a puncture wound in my stomach (courtesy of the handlebars), and a collection of bumps and bruises… so this should go well!

Thank you for supporting us, wish me luck, and please donate what you can!

Barry xx
