Story
In 1986, Barry Kirk spent 100 hours in a bath of beans, earning his very first world record. From that moment, Captain Beany was born. Over the last four decades, he has gone on to raise more than £150,000 for charity, with his latest achievement being a gruelling 45-day hike from John O’Groats to Land’s End.
Now, to mark the 40th anniversary of his original world record, Captain Beany is taking on a brand-new challenge on water — attempting to set a world record assisted by 6 people padding him in a bath full of beans! The course will see him travel 15km from Barnstaple Bridge to Bideford Bridge, bringing fun, fundraising, and community spirit together on the River Taw and Torridge.
This unique event will raise vital funds for the Children’s Holiday Foundation North Devon, a registered charity dedicated to providing holidays of a lifetime in Florida for children with life-limiting illnesses and disabilities.
