Story

I am running the Bath 50km Ultramarathon on 28th March in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS). This will be my first ultramarathon and first marathon, and I’m aiming to complete the 50km loop in under six hours.

GNAAS is a life-saving charity that delivers specialist doctors and paramedics directly to patients in some of the most remote parts of the North East, Cumbria, and the Lake District — often where no other emergency services can reach quickly. They provide advanced pre-hospital care at the scene and during transfer to hospital, making a critical difference when time and access matter most.

The charity is currently fundraising to secure three new helicopters, ensuring they can continue to respond rapidly to emergencies across rural and hard-to-reach areas.

This cause is personal to me. My family has experienced the importance of GNAAS first-hand following a walking trip in the Lake District, when a friend of my dad’s fell ill whilst hiking. GNAAS played a key role in getting him to hospital when very few other services were able to access the location.

As a medical student with a keen interest in pre-hospital and emergency medicine, I’ve chosen this challenge to support a service that represents the very best of emergency care under pressure. The Bath 50km route takes in demanding terrain around the Bath area, including sections of the Cotswold Way and the River Avon, making it a fitting endurance challenge for such an important cause.

Any support would be hugely appreciated — thank you for helping to support a service that truly saves lives.
