Story
Bay 2 Bay is a fundraising walk from the National Organ Donor Commemorative Garden in Salthill on Galway Bay to Brandon pier on Brandon Bay, Kerry in aid of the Irish Kidney Association and to raise awareness about organ donation taking place 3rd to 8th July 2023.
This walk is in memory of Cian Gallagher, who died in November 2022. Cian would always go out of his way to help people and he continues to do this by giving the gift of life by donating his kidneys, liver and heart valves. Three people are living a much better quality of life thanks to Cian’s gift and his heart valves can be kept for a number of years before helping a child or teenager.
At any one time in Ireland there are between 550 and 600 people on waiting lists for organ transplants including heart, lung, liver, kidney, and pancreas. 250 organ transplant operations were carried out in Ireland in 2022 (44 more transplants than in 2021), each offering new life to so many.
You can get an organ donor card by texting DONOR to 50050, downloading the Digital Organ Donor Card App from the Apple or Android Store or by adding Code 115 to your driver’s license.
The Irish Kidney Association is a charitable voluntary organisation founded in 1978. Visit www.ika.ie to learn more about the important work they do.
