Story
I am raising money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice because the work they do transforms the lives of families facing unimaginable challenges.
Bluebell Wood cares for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, supporting hundreds of families both within the hospice and in their own homes. Their services are tailored to each family’s needs and include overnight care, music therapy, counselling, sibling support groups, home visits, and so much more. It costs around £6.5 million each year to keep their doors open for families across South Yorkshire and beyond. With only 16% of this funded through statutory sources, the vast majority must be raised through donations and fundraising.
I am incredibly fortunate to have two happy, healthy daughters. Through them, we have come to know an amazing young lad who regularly attends Bluebell Wood. Without the hospice’s support, my daughters would never have formed the special friendship they treasure today. As a family, we have learned sign language to better communicate with friends of different abilities — an experience that has been both humbling and inspiring.
Seeing first-hand the difference this hospice makes has strengthened my determination to give back. Taking part in this charity ice hockey event is my way of helping ensure that Bluebell Wood can continue to provide vital care, unwavering support, and precious memories for the families who need it most.
