Story
On 8th September 2026, I start my gap year having completed my A Levels this summer. I start my year-out travelling to Nairobi, Kenya to do voluntary work for a charity – The East Africa Character Development Trust (EACDT). This is a UK-registered charity dedicated to transforming the lives of disadvantaged young Africans through character education and sport. Its mission is to equip children with essential life skills that enable them to succeed academically, socially, and professionally. Having been very fortunate to have received an amazing education in the UK, I am volunteering for the charity to give a small amount to others that have been less fortunate than me in Africa. I will be working alongside many children at a school for the next 3 months in Nairobi.
I am therefore raising funds for the charity ahead of my departure. For the 2 weeks leading up to flying to Nairobi, I am planning on doing a daily challenge of moving 6880m via different modes of transport; which represents the distance from London to Nairobi – in metres not kilometres. I will do this alongside my day job where I am working to fund my trip. So far, I have successfully walked 6.88k, skateboarded 6.88K, rowed 6.88k and cycled 6.88k. I will also be completing the distance in different ways including running or on the assault bike or ski erg. You can track my progress and see pictures through Strava and I will upload screenshots onto this page.
I would really appreciate any donation for the Charity. Thank you so much for your support. Benji
