It's bewildering and unsettling for anyone going into hospital but especially for children and that is why we are a fundraising hospital. We raise funds to enhance the experience of our patients by providing state of the art medical equipment and facilities and creating a child-friendly environment.

Story

Transforming Lives: Supporting Children with Chronic Respiratory Conditions

The Department of Respiratory Medicine and Cystic Fibrosis is at the forefront of delivering exceptional care to children and young people across the West Midlands. We are proud to serve a diverse group of patients facing a variety of complex conditions, including:

Sleep disorders and ventilation needs (supporting over 120 children and young patients with invasive and non-invasive ventilation).

Cystic fibrosis, with over 300 patients in our care.

Difficult asthma, providing specialized treatments to 40–50 children.

Bronchiectasis, supporting 130 children and young people, in addition 50 with primary ciliary dyskinesia (PCD).

Chronic lung disease of prematurity and other rare respiratory disorders.

Over 1,000 patients with chronic long-term respiratory conditions are under our care at Birmingham Women's and Children's NHS Foundation Trust.

Our multi-disciplinary team—comprising doctors, specialist nurses, physiotherapists, dietitians, and clinical scientists—delivers personalized, high-quality care both in hospitals and the community. We go beyond treatment, supporting children and their families in schools, homes, and daily life to improve outcomes and reduce hospital admissions.

Why We Need Your Support: Our Goals.

We aim to raise funds to take our care to the next level. Your support will help us:

Fund innovative treatments for children with chronic lung diseases.

Invest in groundbreaking research projects to advance care.

Provide additional resources to enhance the quality of life for our patients.

Our Mission: Climbing Snowdon

Inspired by the daily challenges our patients overcome, our respiratory team is taking on a challenge of our own: climbing Snowdon! This journey is symbolic of the resilience and determination shown by the children and young people we care for.

By sponsoring our climb, you will help us raise much needed charitable funds for the respiratory department, helping us to achieve our goals highlighted above.

How You Can Help

We invite you to sponsor our climb and make a meaningful difference. Every donation, big or small, brings us closer to our goal of improving care for children with chronic respiratory conditions. Together, we can ensure our patients have the tools, treatments, and support they need to thrive.

Let’s take this journey together—your generosity will help us reach new heights, one step at a time.
