Story

Bungay community support is looking to buy a new premises in the Heart of Bungay

Harry takes on his third Half Marathon to raise funds for Bungay Community Support

Harry, a Detective Sergeant in Hampshire and lifelong Norwich City supporter, will be lacing up his trainers once again on Sunday 13 September 2026 as he takes on the New Forest Half Marathon—his third time tackling the 13.1 mile challenge.

For Harry, running is far more than a race. It’s about enjoyment, relaxation, and keeping fit, but also the satisfaction of pushing himself further each year. In 2024 he completed the course in Bournemouth in 2 hours 8 minutes, improving to 1 hour 54 minutes in the Richmond marathon in 2025. This year, he’s aiming for an impressive 1 hour 45 minutes in the New Forest challenge.

His motivation, though, goes well beyond personal achievement. Harry has followed the beginnings and development of Bungay Community Support (BCS) for many years through the work of his mother, and he’s determined to use this year’s half marathon to give something back.

“I’ve watched how BCS has grown and supported people in our community. It’s a worthy cause, and I want to help it continue that work,”

BCS plays a vital role in supporting residents across the Bungay area, and Harry hopes his run will inspire others to get behind the charity at a time when community services matter more than ever.

There’s also a lovely family thread running through his story. Despite now living and working in Hampshire, Harry has always supported Norwich City, and his children still go to sleep clutching their Norwich bears—proof that some loyalties run deep.

Residents across Bungay and beyond are encouraged to cheer Harry on and, if they can, sponsor his challenge. Details on how to sponsor Harry will be available on the BCS website, where supporters can follow his progress and help him reach his fundraising goal.

A local man, a family connection, a community cause, and a determined runner—Harry’s story is exactly the kind of inspiration that brings people together. Let’s help him make this his best race yet.
