Story
A group of us will be walking from Guildford to Farnham (stage 1 of the North Downs Way) approximately 17.5km in aid of our Charity of the Year, Andy's Man Club.
We will be getting outdoors to enjoy nature and the picturesque sights of Surrey with its rolling hills, bushland and country roads and villages. Nature can generate many positive emotions, such as calmness, joy, and creativity and can facilitate concentration. Connecting with nature also lowers levels of poor mental health, particularly depression and anxiety. We will be using this opportunity to also have some representatives from Andy's Man Club talk to us along the walk, about what this amazing charity does, whilst also enjoying getting to know our colleagues and stakeholders.
ANDYSMANCLUB are a men’s suicide prevention charity, offering free-to-attend peer-to-peer support groups across the UK and online.
The charity want to end the stigma surrounding men’s mental health and help men through the power of conversation. #ITSOKAYTOTALK
566 people in the construction industry lost their lives to suicide last year.
Across the UK in total, 4,500 men were lost to suicide, equating to one person dying every two hours. With additional funding, more centres can be opened to provide a necessary outlet for men struggling at work or at home to speak to people who can support them.
