We help LGBTQ+ people live in safety as asylum seekers. We meet basic needs, organise events, provide weekly support groups, and peer to peer support. We carry out casework to aid queer people's asylum claim based on gender and sexual orientation.

Story

In celebration of LGBTQ+ History month, Inclusion-hurst are running an all-day Tuck Shop in the Beauhurst Nottingham Office in support of Bristol Pride Without Borders!

Here's some information on the charity's activities from the group themselves:

Asylum claims based on escape from persecution due to sexuality have a lower acceptance rate. Bristol Pride Without Borders helps LGBTQ+ people live in safety as asylum seekers and new refugees. They meet basic needs, organise queer friendly events, provide weekly support groups, and peer to peer support. Most importantly they carry out casework to support people's asylum claim based on gender and sexual orientation.

Their hard work has already resulted in 35 people securing their refugee status and enabled them to live freely in safety.

After winning his court case with the support of Pride Without Borders, Mohammed said: "I'm really thankful for Pride Without Borders who gave me the confidence to live openly. Being accepted as a refugee by the courts has totally changed my life. Before I had a lot of stress and uncertainty, but since the day I received my status I have felt calm. I feel I have the right to live my life my own way."

Keep an eye out around the Notts office kitchen for our LGBTQ+ information board, an array of pride flags, and a print out of an Inclusion-hurst blog post showcasing the LGBTQ+ history of Nottingham and Brixton, written by our own Jess Rough!
