Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving Page.
On 25th May, I’ll be walking 100km from London to Brighton over tarmac, muddy fields and hills through day and night to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.
Last December, my sister was diagnosed with stage 3 bowel cancer.
And whilst someone is diagnosed with cancer every 90 seconds in the UK, I never expected it to happen to Maggie.
Cancer is brutal. It ruthlessly takes so much from everyone in its path and the constant cycle of tests, treatment and changing prognoses has been a physical, emotional and mental rollercoaster.
My sister has been just extraordinary during this whole ordeal. I’m so proud of her unwavering strength, quiet tenacity and steadfast courage as she kicks cancer’s butt whilst still being a phenomenal mum to my brilliant niece and nephew.
We’ve laughed our way through chemo, survived major surgery, held each other in grief, and picked ourselves up over and over.
Our situation is one many other families are likewise battling.
So in the spirit of saying “F you” to cancer and my humble attempt to channel my sister’s brilliance, I’ll be walking/crawling the equivalent of more than two marathons from my favourite Richmond Park to the Brighton coastline. I’m raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, hoping to bring something positive to this shitty (-mandatory bowel cancer pun-) situation.
Please donate anything you can spare to cheer me on and help people living with cancer receive the support they need.
£20 could pay for a Macmillan Support Worker for 1 hour
£35 could pay for a Macmillan Nurse for 1 hour
£50 could pay for 100 copies of The Cancer Guide
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - saving time and cutting costs.
I’m so grateful for your support and all contributions are enormously appreciated.
Big hugs, Becca

- UPDATE 26 MAY -
100km, almost £4k raised including gift aid, and 2 missing toenails. It's been a remarkable 29.5 hours!
Only some of you will know that days after this justgiving page went live, I suffered a knee injury which left me unable to walk or climb stairs. With donations pouring in, I was scared I wouldn't be able to walk down the street let alone do 100km.
But what a 100km it was. From beautiful morning views at the Richmond start line, to wading through unrelenting calf-deep mud in torrential rain only able to see a foot in front of me, constant nausea from 10pm onward, half sleeping at rest points freezing under foil blankets, resigned that I would tap out at 80km but somehow clawing back some reserve to push though the last 20km and cross the finishing line.
I couldn't be more grateful to you all - for the donations, the messages, the voice notes and the support. And especially to Mum, Erin and Lucas who cheered me on at the finishing line. I can honestly say I couldn't have done it without you.
What we've raised so far will help pay for 190 people receiving specialist emotional, practical or financial support for Macmillan's cancer hotline, which is just staggering. You can still donate for 3 more weeks so do keep sharing 💕
Now I'm off to sleep for 2 days xoxo
