Story

Walk for Winnie: Pier to Pier

On 27th June 2026, I’ll be taking on a journey between Clacton and Walton Pier. I’m doing this to raise money for my cousin’s daughter Winnie, a little girl who is currently facing a reality most of us can’t even imagine.

Why I’m Walking

Winnie is 9 years old, and she is one of the bravest people I know. She lives with an extremely severe form of Osteogenesis Imperfecta (Brittle Bone Disease) alongside Autism.

To give you an idea of how fragile and rare her condition is: Winnie has already endured hundreds of fractures and has had to go through 12 major operations in her short life. Her bones are so delicate that the simplest things we take for granted are dangerous for her. Even a sneeze can break one of her ribs. Despite the constant pain and the fact that she is a full-time wheelchair user, Winnie is intelligent, creative, and incredibly determined. But she needs a home that is actually safe for her to live in.

The Goal: £50,000 for a Safe Home

We are urgently raising funds to adapt the family home to support Winnie’s long-term independence. This means creating a dedicated downstairs living space, including:

A new, safe bedroom.

A fully adapted wet room.

Specialist lifting and care equipment.

The treatment Winnie received for five years unfortunately didn't improve her bone strength as hoped, making these home adaptations more critical than ever. This work is essential, but it is far beyond what the family can manage alone.

How Your Support Helps

All fundraising is managed through Tree of Hope, a UK charity that ensures:

Transparency: Every penny is spent exclusively on Winnie’s medical care and home adaptations.

Gift Aid: Your donations can be boosted by 25%, making your support go even further.

Accountability: All spending is monitored, so you can be 100% confident in where your money is going.

How to Donate

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast, and secure. Your contribution goes directly to Tree of Hope to help us reach that £50,000 target.

Winnie surprises everyone with her strength every single day. Please help us give her the safe, accessible home she deserves.
