Story

On 1st August 2026, The Lark Ladies will be walking 13 miles along the beautiful North Norfolk coast in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society – a cause that has become deeply personal to our Becky and her family. Over 850,000 people in the UK are living with dementia, and every single one of them has a unique story, a loved one, and a fight. For us, that fight is personal, since Becky’s mum Ellen has been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

Becky’s Story: For years, we watched mum work tirelessly, juggling a full-time job while raising two children, and dreaming of the day she could retire and spend time with her first granddaughter. Unfortunately, her retirement dreams were never to be, as dementia slowly began to take hold. But despite the challenges, mum remains in good hands, surrounded by immense support from our family and the incredible staff at Honeysuckle Our World in Copdock, where she attends a day centre. We are grateful that, although a shadow of her former self, she is still content and happy at home.

This walk is not just a challenge—it’s a way to make my mum proud and to honour her strength, resilience, and the love she has given to all of us. We hope to raise as much money as possible to help those affected by dementia and to support research that can make a real difference. This journey is as much for my mum as it is for everyone else whose life has been touched by this heart-wrenching disease.

Thank you for supporting us and all families affected by this cruel disease. Together, we can help fund further research and provide better care for loved ones and their families.
