What is this Campaign?
Times are tough at the moment for the LGBTQIA+ community, particularly our transgender and non-binary friends. With the worrying rise in discrimination and fearmongering targeted at the transgender community in the UK, particularly over the last decade, I want to fundraise for a cause that offers help and support to those who are negatively impacted.
During the month of May 2025, I have set myself the challenge of playing through Ring Fit Adventure from start to finish, defeating the final boss by the end of the month, in order to raise money for Switchboard.
What is Ring Fit Adventure?
Ring Fit Adventure is an exercising action role-playing video game for the Nintendo Switch. Players perform physical activities to traverse levels and fight enemies. The game's adventure mode consists of 23 worlds, each containing multiple levels and boss fights. The main antagonist and final boss of the game is Dragaux. Anyone who's familiar with this game knows how physically challenging it is!
I'm very out of shape, so I'm going to be playing on a low difficulty level in order to make this challenge possible. But don't worry, I'm still going to have a hefty workout on my hands!
I will be posting screenshots from my gameplay to keep you all updated on my progress!
Who are Switchboard?
Switchboard (originally known as London Gay Switchboard) is the UK's national LGBTQIA+ support line. They've been helping the LGBTQIA+ community and its allies for five decades, throughout all the crises, celebrations and changing attitudes. Their confidential helpline is open for anyone who wants to talk about gender identity, sexuality, sexual health and emotional wellbeing. They operate a telephone line, instant messaging and email service from 10am to 10pm, 365 days a year.
Over the last decade, Switchboard has seen an increasing number of transgender and non-binary service users from all across the UK, expressing anxiety around representation in the media, the public debates around their identities, access to healthcare, and personal safety.
On average it costs Switchboard £16 for each conversation, so I've set a fundraising target of £160 to try and help 10 people access help and support. But any donation helps, no matter how small!
