Running for Mum – London Marathon 2026 #teamHDA
On 26th April 2026, I’ll be taking on the London Marathon with one goal in mind: to raise over £8,000 for the Huntington’s Disease Association.
Almost three years ago, I lost my mum to Huntington’s disease — a cruel and degenerative disease that affects the body’s nervous system (the network of nerve tissues in the brain and spinal cord that coordinate your body’s activities). This leads to progressive deterioration, physically, cognitively, and mentally until the individual becomes dependent on the help of others.
Huntington’s disease affects around 8,000 people in the UK or 1 in 10,000 people. Up to 32,000 people in the UK live at risk of developing the disease. It can start at any age and symptoms gradually get worse over 10 to 25 years until the person dies. Every child conceived naturally to a parent who has Huntington’s disease has a 50% chance of inheriting it.
Watching my Mum deteriorate rapidly and face this terminal illness knowing there would be not cure has changed my life forever. Even though there is no cure, there is still hope — and that hope starts with awareness, support and most importantly raising money so HDA can continue its incredible work.
I’m running this marathon not only in memory of my mum, but for every person and family affected by this horrendous disease .
This challenge will push me to my limits, but every step I take is for a cause that means the world to me. If you can donate, share, or support in any way — thank you. Together, we can make a difference.
Let’s do this. For Mum. For every family. For a future without Huntington’s.
