Story
We are moving!
Our new premises will be available in 2024 so with the NICU Appeal we are all set to purchase the desired equipment to make the unit as up to date as possible.
We are putting in a new biometric system to support parents coming into the unit. This system will allow them to enter and exit as they please without having to wait for a member of the team to let them in. This also provides the safest system as it will only allow those parents who have their fingerprint set up entry.
We are putting in a counselling and bereavement room to support any parents on this sad journey.
We are also putting in a wonderful outdoor garden on the new balcony to allow us to wheel babies outside to enjoy the fresh air with their parents. This is proven to aid healing in new born babies.
Why do we need this?
Every year the Luton and Dunstable Hospital’s (L&D) Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) treats over 900 premature and critically ill full-term babies. We offer the highest level of neonatal intensive care possible and are one of only three high-level neonatal units in the East of England.
Because of this and an increasing birth rate, demand for our specialist services has significantly outstripped resources. The NICU are raising funds to buy extra equipment and enhance the Unit to ensure that all the babies are treated in the best possible environment.
There will always be a need for support so do not worry all fundraising is graciously accepted and will be used to support the unit and it's patients.
Don't forget we also fundraise for the Parents Accommodation, this allows us to keep the accommodation free for parents. We are one of the few NICU's around to do this, and we can only do this from the generosity of our supporters.
