Great North Run 2025 · 7 September 2025 ·

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.

Story

I'm raising money for the *incredible* Teenage Cancer Trust - a charity that is very close to my heart. In fact, you could say it runs in my blood, as they were there to support me when I was diagnosed with leukaemia (blood cancer) at 14, helping me through two years of treatment until I received the all-clear at 16.

Before I was diagnosed, my biggest concern as a 14-year-old was deciding whether I was Team Edward or Team Jacob (there's only one right answer, but I’ll let you guess). So naturally, my world turned upside down when my daily life suddenly became a mix of chemo, surgeries, and endless tests.

But even though it was a tough time, the Teenage Cancer Trust helped create so many happy memories. They made sure the ward was as comfortable as possible and always found ways to keep us entertained during overnight stays. When we were feeling up to it, they took us out for fun trips—whether it was pizza-making, gigs, or a day at Alton Towers. And when we were feeling even better, they organised overnight stays at places like Centre Parcs and London.

They regularly brought in celebrities too—both Gallagher brothers (separately obviously), Fall Out Boy, Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys and so many others—each visit resulting in some funny stories that I still tell to this day. And the Christmas parties? They were the highlight—giving us a chance to dress up and forget everything for just one night.

In short, they turned what should have been a nightmare into something I look back on with surprising fondness.

Now, as I’m about to turn 30 in 2025—fourteen years after my all-clear—I want to give something back to the charity that made such a huge difference in my life. So, naturally, I decided the best way to do that would be to… run.

If you know me, you’ll know I don’t run. Like, not even for the bus because it gives me the ‘ick. But for my 30th lap around the sun, I want to go big for a great cause. Plus, chemo left me with ridiculously tight calves (a bizarre side effect, I know), so running feels like the perfect way to tackle that *last* little reminder and reflect on the whole journey.

So, if you fancy supporting me (or just want a laugh imagining me attempting this), please donate! Every little bit helps the Teenage Cancer Trust continue their amazing work for young people going through tough times.
