Story

My Story

Hello everyone, here is a small introduction as most of you know me. My name is Ben Bradley.

I'm 25 and currently juggling training for a Marathon and working full time for the NHS. (Apologies in advance is every conversation turns to running now!😆).

Five years ago, I lost my Grandad to Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a cruel and progressive neurological condition that damages the nerves controlling movement. As the disease progresses, people gradually lose the ability to walk, use their arms and hands, speak, swallow, and eventually breathe independently. Despite these devastating physical effects, many people with MND remain mentally aware throughout, making the disease even more heartbreaking for both those living with it and the families who love them.

Watching someone you care about go through MND is incredibly difficult. It changes not only the life of the person diagnosed but also the lives of everyone around them.

Throughout my Grandad’s illness, he spent time at Saint Michael’s Hospice in Harrogate. The care, compassion, and dignity he was shown were nothing short of incredible. Just as importantly, the staff were there for our family, offering comfort, reassurance, and support during one of the hardest times of our lives. Saint Michael’s Hospice became a place of peace and kindness when we needed it most and we will always be grateful for everything they did.

This year, I’m incredibly proud to be running the London Marathon in support of Saint Michael’s Hospice. Every mile I run will be in memory of my Grandad and in honour of the amazing care he received. I also hope to ensure that other families facing the unimaginable can receive the same outstanding support, compassion, and dignity that meant so much to us.

If you’re able to support me with a donation, no matter how big or small, I would be hugely grateful. Every contribution will help Saint Michael’s Hospice continue providing exceptional care for patients and their families when they need it most.

Thank you so much for your kindness, generosity, and encouragement. Your support means more than I can put into words, and every donation will help make a real difference.💜
