The Sleep Apnoea Trust exists to improve the lives of sleep apnoea patients, their partners and families. We run help lines, produce information leaflets and newsletters, raise awareness, run conferences and fund research. The Trust is a patient support charity run by patients.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. I have chosen this charity to support as it did unfortunately affect my family in 2021. All money raised will help research new treatments to aid those with the condition.

After 10 years thinking about tackling this challenging Lands End to John O'Groats ride and on the edge of a certain milestone age the time has come. A passing comment to a cycling colleague during a cold winters bike ride in December 2021 asking if he had taken on the ride, and who is also reaching the same age milestone as myself, had not and which led us to coming up with the idea then a plan and putting that together over the last 18 months. Taking place between the 12th and 23rd July, our ride is not the traditional LEJOG route. We are using where possible the National Cycle Network, cycle lanes, tow paths and green lanes. We are using Gravel Bikes which are similar to a road bike but with a better capability for the rougher tracks we will use but still capable of good speeds on the road. After leaving Cornwall & Devon we are heading up towards the Peak District before crossing into Scotland and making our way over to the east coast and up through the Cairngorms. Total distance is c1 100 miles. The first few days are supported with overnights in a tent before we reach our home towns passing through Malvern for a night at home. The following 8 days are unsupported carrying all our equipment with us. We are though treating ourselves with overnights in hostels or generous offers of accommodation from friends and family and finally my brother kindly giving up his time to drive up to JO'G to pick us up for the return trip home.

Preparation as been a bit behind the plans with the wet and cool late Winter/Spring we have seen making it less inviting to get out, but now with a good progress of training rides, several 100+ miles rides completed and planned up to the start we hope to be in good shape.
