Henley Half Marathon · 20 October 2024

While your baby has specialist treatment at the John Radcliffe Hospital, we provide vital support to families. We also fund equipment for the unit, invest in training for NHS staff, run Little SSNAPlings and support research projects. We stand by families every step of the way.

Story

I am running the Henley Half Marathon in memory of my daughter Ayla. She was cared for at the John Radcliffe Hospital for the nine days she was with us, and we wanted to give back to one of the charities that helped support us.

Ayla showed incredible strength in her short time with us, and I wanted to honour this by doing something that will be a real challenge for me - a half marathon. I do not enjoy running, have never attempted running further than 10k, and have chosen an event with a horribly steep section dubbed "heartbreak hill".

We are incredibly grateful for our incredible support network, including the efforts of the excellent Dan Taber-Hewett, Hollee Acott, Alex Johnson, Sam Baker, Lucy Stacey-Moore, Zoe Handscombe, and Chris Dore, who are taking on this challenge with me.

SSNAP support sick newborn, their parents and those that care for them; by providing emotional, medical, financial and informational support.

SSNAP was founded in 1982 and has supported the Newborn Care Unit at the John Radcliffe Hospital ever since. The unit can care for up to 56 babies at any one time and is a Level 3 Centre, the most sick and premature babies from across the Thames Valley, are looked after here in Oxford.
