On Christmas Eve, my wonderful mum, Rachael, sadly passed away from Retroperitoneal Liposarcoma – a very rare cancer she bravely battled for years. She was truly the light in any dark room and the most selfless person you could ever meet. Throughout her battle, her priority was always her family and making us happy, creating memories to cherish for a lifetime.

As a family, we cared for Mum as best as we could, which allowed us to continue making those precious memories together. When the time came, the Marie Curie Hospice at Home Team stepped in and lifted a huge weight off our shoulders. Every time they visited Mum, they made her laugh and ensured she was much more comfortable than before. Their advice and support throughout was simply priceless.

When Mum decided to move into the hospice, the nurses made the transition smooth and seamless. The care they provided was exceptional, not only for Mum but for all of us as a family. They put us at ease and, most importantly, ensured Mum wasn’t in pain. The nurses didn’t just offer physical care; they were also there for us emotionally, giving us a shoulder to cry on when we needed it most. Their help was invaluable, and we can never thank them enough.

Because of this, we want to do all we can to support them and show our gratitude. The nurses are true superheroes. On 27th April 2025, I will be running the Stratford Half Marathon, and Abbie will be running the full marathon. We are doing this in memory of Mum and to raise money for Marie Curie.

Marie Curie doesn’t just support the person who is unwell – they support the whole family too. Every penny we raise will help ensure more families can receive the incredible care and support that we were so lucky to have.
