48 Hour Tennis Match for Kids Village

Ben Selby is raising money for Kids' Village

48 Hour Tennis Match · 27 June 2025

Kids' Village is building the UK's first respite holiday village just for children with critical illnesses and their families. A place where they can be themselves again and spend time with those closest to them for a well deserved respite break away from hospitals and the trauma of having a critical illness.

Story

Playing tennis for 48 hours straight might sound like madness — but maybe not to me.

Back in May 2022, I spent 24 hours on court to raise money for Ukraine and to see if I could play for that long. This June, I’m doubling it. I want to see if I can, and more importantly, because the cause is worth every single shot.

After meeting Sam Fletcher from Kids’ Village, I knew it was time to push myself again — this time for something truly life-changing.

Sam’s dream has been two decades in the making: to build the UK’s first Kids’ Village — a holiday retreat just for children with critical illnesses and their families. When Sam was a child, she had cancer in the side of her face. It was a horrible, uncertain time. But her family gave her hope by planning for her future — including a trip to Give Kids The World Village in the US. That magical place left a huge mark on her. It wasn’t just a holiday — it was transformational.

Sam promised herself that if she made it through, she’d build something just like it here in the UK. And now, that promise is close to becoming a reality. The land is secured, planning permission granted, work on the site has started, and fundraising is well underway.

As Sam says:

“We couldn’t do it without people like Ben taking on mad challenges and helping us raise both funds and awareness.”

So, here I go again.

From 4pm on Friday 27th June to 4pm on Sunday 29th June 2025, I’ll be playing tennis for 48 hours at The Lenches Tennis Club. There’ll be a rota of players joining me on court — and yes, you can be one of them.

Book your hour slot with Charlie on 07775 660065 or Ben on 07477 011404 for a £20 donation.

There’ll be food, drinks, a car wash and a cracking view — it’s one of the best in Worcestershire.

If you’ve never hit a tennis ball at 4am, raised money for something incredible, or just want to be part of something a little bit mad — this is your moment.
