My Story
As many of you know, I’ve taken part in this event before and I always try to give it everything I’ve got — both in the ring and in raising as much money as possible.
This year, though, this fight means even more to me.
I’m boxing in support of Northam Care Trust Hydrotherapy, a charity that is very close to my heart and my family. A work colleague of mine, and a long-standing friend, recently lost his son, Ricky Smith, who sadly passed away just a few weeks ago after a lifetime of health challenges. Ricky was 45.
Ricky was disabled from a very early age and was supported for many years by Northam Care Trust. Much like my cousin James, Ricky lived with disability, yet despite this, they shared a bond that went back to childhood — growing up together, going to school together, being cared for by the same trust, and constantly winding each other up in the way only they could. There was always a lot of fondness between them.
This fight is for Ricky, and it’s also for his incredible family — Derek and Libby, his mum and dad, and his sisters Amy and Josie — who stood by him with love, strength and dedication throughout his life.
That’s why I’ve chosen to step into the ring again: to help Northam Care Trust continue the amazing work they do for people in our community, and for the families who walk that journey alongside them.
Any support, whether that’s coming along on the night or making a donation, truly means the world. I’ll give it everything I’ve got and put on the best show I can — I’m sure my opponent will too.
Tickets are on sale now via The Big Sheep website. And if you can’t attend, a donation of any size would be hugely appreciated.
Thank you for helping make a real difference.
