Ben's fundraiser for ME Research UK

Ben Smalley is raising money for ME Research UK
In memory of Jasmin Solomons

Climbing distance

ME Research UK exists solely to fund high quality biomedical studies into the causes and treatment of ME/CFS. This illness affects over 400,000 people in the UK but is neither well understood nor, in many cases, properly recognised. We fund highly regarded, peer-reviewed research worldwide.

Story

I’m fundraising for ME research because this cause is incredibly personal to me.

A close friend of mine, Jasmin, developed Severe ME. She was someone who introduced me to climbing and had a meaningful impact on my life, especially whilst at University, and losing her has made me want to do something positive in her memory.

ME is a complex and often poorly understood illness that can have a devastating impact on people’s lives. Despite this, there is still so much we don’t know about its causes, treatment and how best to support those living with it.

I’m fundraising to help support research that can improve our understanding of ME and, ultimately, lead to better treatments and a better future for people living with the condition.

For me, this is about turning something incredibly difficult into something positive. It’s a way of remembering Jasmin, honouring the impact she had on my life, and helping contribute towards a future where people with ME have the understanding, treatment and support they deserve.

Any donation, no matter how small, would mean a great deal to me and help support this important work.
