Three Peaks · 27 June 2025

Congential Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG) is an umbrella term for a very rare group of diseases that causes severe disability. There is no known treatment or cure. As the disease is so rare, there are very few children in the UK affected. CDG UK provides a support network and a patient voice.

Story

CDG (Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation) is the name of a group of an extremely rare and complex genetic, metabolic diseases, which affects all parts of the body including the brain. I myself do not carry the condition, however one of my dearest friend's brother does. I personally volunteer at an annual event to help out, and have been touched by the strength of the families who are much more directly affected. Seeing the strength of these families and those effected has inspired me to raise money in support of CDG UK, https://cdg-uk.org/

This summer, myself (Ben) and 3 friends (Adam, Max and Owen), all second year university students, will be undertaking the 24h three peaks challenge driven by my dad (Richard). The plan is to start climbing Ben Nevis at 5pm on the 27th of June, moving onto Scafell Pike and finishes with Snowden by 5pm on the 28th.

In preperation for this my friends and I recently undertook the Chiltern 50km Challenge, successfully walking 50km in just over 10h. The 4 of us will be aiming to do other similar challenges in further preperation for the peaks.

All in all this looks to be a fun yet difficult challenge for us in support of a wonderful cause.
