Story
I have been working in East London the last couple of years. Very quickly the level of poverty in the area was apparent. Not only do we have risk assessments to avoid local crime (some of the worst in the country), there are numerous rough sleepers in evidence.
With that in mind this year for our sleep out, Moll and I are supporting Shelter.
Home is a human right. Yet, every day millions of people are being devastated by the housing emergency.
Shelter exist to defend the right to a safe home. Because home is everything. https://england.shelter.org.uk/what_we_do
In terms of what we will be doing, we will be sleeping in a sleeping bag, on a porch on the night before Christmas day.
It is important to note, that while we might get an idea of how sleeping rough feels for one night, we do not mean to trivialise what is otherwise a massive issue. In reading about homelessness it is clear that there is a massive mental toll on people, dealing with abandonment and isolation, which we will obviously (and thankfully) not experience in this sleep out.
