I’m on medical elective in Malawi for the whole month of December 2023.

I’ve self funded flights, accommodation, airport transfers and the hospital elective fee meaning any funds raised are going to be used to help others, not me.

Severe Acute Malnutrition and Malaria are two massive problems that fill the children’s ward.

Antimalarials & other medicines simply can’t work if the body is too weak through calorific deficit.

The hope is fundraising here can implement a fully traceable Likuni Phala ( Maize soya rice & nuts porridge) provided by the hospital twice a day to support recovery this is at no cost to the patient and breastfeeding mothers.

The fields are just a few miles from the hospital creating local jobs and the kitchen a few feet from the people who need it most.

If you are in a position to donate I can assure you that even a small amount of money makes a huge difference.

At the recent 44% devaluation the MWK is 2000 :£1 which means a kg bag is just a single pound.

5-10 bags are used a day, average 7kg.

It’s sobering that what I spent on two coffees on the 5h train to LHR would feed half a hospital for the day.

I've created this page because of my participation in the Responsible Electives Campaign. Part of the ethos of Responsible Elective is that as well as working, I will donate money to the hospital to enable the provision of resources to people seeking medical attention.
