Story
Hi everyone,
I am running the Ibiza Marathon on the 12th of April and would like to raise money for lymphoma research.
After being diagnosed with lymphoma in January 2024 and undergoing four months of treatment, I have now been in remission for nearly 10 months. I count myself very lucky.
I have chosen to raise money specifically for research because, among many things, I always felt incredibly grateful that so many people dedicate their time to continually researching cancers and improving the chances of beating them for people like me.
I had Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma and received chemotherapy called R-CHOP. Each letter represents a different drug. From what I understand, the chances of this treatment working were around 70%. Twenty years ago, that number would have been only 50% because the treatment was just CHOP. Thanks to research, the drug Rituximab (R) was added. When you're undergoing treatment, the difference between a 50% and a 70% success rate feels huge. Without donations from people like you, these improvements wouldn’t be possible. So please donate if you can.
When I was unwell, I said when I’m better, I’m going to run the Ibiza Marathon. So here we are. I've been training since July and have just completed my 60th training run. The reason I am only just setting up this page is that, even though I’ve been in remission for 10 months, there is always the lingering fear that the cancer could return, and I didn’t want to sign up only for that to happen. Now, with seven weeks to go, I’m keeping my fingers crossed that nothing will stop me from running those 42 km in the Ibiza sun!
Please donate if you can.
Ben
