Three weeks. That’s how long our son spent on Ward E40 at Nottingham Children’s Hospital — three of the longest, most emotional weeks of our lives.
During that time, we saw first-hand the incredible dedication, compassion and skill of the doctors, nurses and support staff who cared not only for our son, but for us as a family too. They worked tirelessly to keep him comfortable, reassured us when we were scared, and went above and beyond every single day.
Ward E40 became our world. What could have been an overwhelmingly frightening experience was made so much more bearable because of the kindness, patience and professionalism of the team there.
Leo’s condition is incredibly rare — 1 in 10 million. Knowing how unique and complex his needs are makes us even more grateful for the expertise and care he receives.
Although those three weeks are behind us, our journey isn’t over. We are still under the care of neurology and Leo has his
treatment in hospital every four weeks, along with several additional visits in between. The continued support, monitoring and treatment mean everything to us, and we are so grateful that this level of care is there when our son needs it.
We are also so incredibly grateful to our family, friends, and even strangers for their generosity and support during the most difficult time in our lives. The kindness we have been shown has meant more than we can ever put into words. We hope to repay that kindness by helping others who may find themselves facing similar challenges.
We can never fully repay what the hospital team has done — and continue to do — for our family, but we can try to give something back.
We’re raising money to support Nottingham Children’s Hospital so they can continue providing outstanding care, fund vital equipment, improve facilities, and help other families going through some of the hardest moments of their lives.
If you’re able to donate — no matter how big or small — it would mean so much to us. Thank you for helping us turn our gratitude into something positive that can make a difference for other children and families.
