XTERRA SNOWDONIA TRAIL MARATHON ERYRI 2024 · 14 July 2024

We support young people (13-25 years old) with their mental health and emotional well-being. • We offer accessible community-based support within the Cambridgeshire area. • Support includes evidence-based practice along with a range of alternative/holistic therapies. A Mindful Paws provides a range of user friendly interventions and projects. We pride ourselves on treating young people holistically and have developed a range of creative interventions, based on the feedback we have had from young people. The young people have told us that the current services available to them can seem too formal which often creates a barrier to accessing support. With this in mind, we currently offer the following: - Canine-Assisted Therapy with Carrie who is an experienced mental health nurse (in CAMHS) offering group and individual sessions assisted by her therapy dogs Leo and Barnaby utilising established therapeutic interventions such as DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy). - Mindfulness and Individual therapy provided by Jo who is a mental health nurse (in CAMHS) and qualified mindfulness practitioner. Jo provides mindfulness training to groups and individuals alongside talking therapies. - Claire is an experienced youth support worker who provides social group support utilising creative methods such as, art and craft, cooking and games tailored to meet the young people's particular needs and interests.

Story

The North Wales answer to The Hardest Geezer, I have decided to challenge myself with the next best thing after the first marathon. What is it you ask? The XTERRA SNOWDONIA TRAIL MARATHON ERYRI 2024 (In capital letters to make it more daunting)

At the £500 raised mark, I will put myself through a traumatic experience, where I will allow my friends to rip off every hair on my body, from the neck down, with hot wax.

At the £1000 raised mark, I will get a tattoo of a dogs paw with the name Alfie with it.

For context, Alfie was a golden retriever that we got when I was 7 and unfortunately he passed away at 13 Years Old. He got me through so much mentally and emotionally, I don't know where I would've been today without him.

Now a little bit about the charity I will be running for:

A Mindful Paws offers group and individual support to young people who are struggling with emotional and mental health difficulties.

A Mindful Paws provides a safe space where young people can access support and relief from their emotional or mental health difficulties from experienced and qualified staff. They provide a range of support, including support form a Young People’s Worker, canine assisted therapy (group and 1:1 support), mindfulness group, 1:1 support from a systemic practitioner, along with bespoke short projects such as yoga, aromatherapy, bushcrafts, life skills for LAC (Looked After Children), etc. They also create programmes and projects based on what the young people would like and would find helpful.
