MS Corporate Climb - Ben Nevis

Over 150,000 of us in the UK have MS. It’s unpredictable and different for everyone. But it doesn’t have to be this way. We’re the MS Society. We understand what life’s like with MS. We're here for you through the highs, lows and everything in between. Together, we are strong enough to stop MS.

Story

On the 14th of October I will be climbing Ben Nevis, the highest point in the UK. I will be doing this alongside 22 of my amazing colleagues from Hunter Gatherer AHP & Hunter Gatherer Mental Health, to raise money for the Stop MS charity appeal.

While this is a corporate event, raising money to help Stop MS is hugely personal for me as my wife, Anna, was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 6 years ago. During that time she has been affected in many ways, having major issues with her vision, hearing (thankfully now both resolved), battling severe fatigue, her executive function (organisation, working memory amongst other issues) declining, suffering from pains in her hands, arms, legs, alongside struggling to come to terms with a very uncertain future. 50% of those diagnosed with relapse remitting MS, which is the large majority, go onto get secondary progressive MS 10-15 years after being diagnosed. This means the disease changes from being a relapse followed by a period of remission into a relentless series of relapses with no breaks in between, each one increasing the patient's levels of disability. There are treatments to manage relapse remitting but there is currently no cure for secondary progressive. Stop MS is looking to change that.

She is so brave every single day, refusing to be beaten by a degenerative disease with no current cure. Anna is unwaveringly positive in her outlook, so determined to be a wonderful mum to Lily & Bruno. She recently came into the Hunter offices in London to talk to the team about MS, to give some insight into the disease, how it affects work life, family life and mental health. I am so proud of her. The Stop MS appeal is funding research which could make a significant, positive difference to the outlook for Anna and the other 130,00 people in the UK who have MS.

If you feel you can spare a few quid to support me in this challenge, and to help Stop MS, I'd really appreciate it.

Hunter Gatherer AHP & Hunter Gatherer Mental Health (my businesses) are paying for everyone to actually do the event, therefore all the money raised in donations will be going directly to the MS Society, so your money will make a big difference to Stop MS Appeal.

Stop MS Appeal

MS damages nerves in your body and makes it harder to do everyday things like walk, talk, eat and think. It can be relentless, painful, and exhausting. Over 130,000 people live with MS in the UK, yet many are without treatment. The Stop MS Appeal needs to raise £100 million to find treatments for everyone with MS. To make treatments to stop MS a reality, we must fund more world-leading research. We won’t stop funding new studies, vital infrastructure projects and ground-breaking clinical trials. By 2025 we aim to be in the final stages of testing a range of treatments for everyone with MS. We can finally see a future where no one needs to worry about MS getting worse.
