Story
Thank you for looking at our fundraising page for the Berkhamsted and District Community First Responder group.
We’re raising money to fund new defibrillators and medical kit for our team of volunteers who respond to 999 medical emergencies ahead of the ambulance.
Your Donation Could Save a Life — Maybe Even Yours
Imagine the worst happens — you or a loved one suddenly collapse, struggle to breathe, or are involved in a serious accident. You call 999, desperate for help. If you live in Berkhamsted, Tring, or the surrounding areas, the first person to reach you is likely to be a Community First Responder (CFR) — a highly trained volunteer who is often first on scene prior to the ambulances arrival and able to provide vital life-saving care until the ambulance crews arrive.
CFRs are dispatched to many types of medical emergency — from heart attacks, strokes, and seizures to choking, diabetic emergencies, and severe injuries. They provide critical care before the ambulance arrives, ensuring patients get the best possible chance of survival and recovery.
In emergency situations every minute counts (for example, in the case of a cardiac arrest, for every minute without resuscitation brain function decreases by 10%). In these crucial moments, a CFR could be the reason someone survives.
These volunteers are trained by the ambulance service but what many people don’t realise is that they have to fund their own medical kits. Each kit — containing a defibrillator, oxygen, and vital monitoring equipment — costs around £3,500 and without them they simply can’t do their job.
This service could be the difference between life and death for you, a family member, friend, or neighbour. Please donate today — because one day, it could be you who needs them.
Not only do our remarkable volunteers give up their free time to attend life threatening 999 calls but they also dedicate time to their community to arrange CPR and automated external defibrillator (AED) awareness training, hold recruitment events, community education talks and fundraising endeavours – all to continuously raise scheme awareness and to keep the group active in providing vital emergency support in the local community.
