Bernadette Chapman - Camino de Santiago Trek 2025

Bernadette Chapman is raising money for One Woman at a Time

3 day Camino De Santiago trek (67km) · 1 October 2025

We are a UK charity that supports girls and women fleeing gender based crimes predominantly in Kenya but also in India and the UK. Every penny counts when it comes to educating the girls in Kenya and giving them the opportunity to become role models when saying no to gender based crimes.

Story

Please support me on a 3 day trek covering the last 67km of the Camino de Santiago pilgrimage

We believe all woman can embrace who they are, can define their future, and can change the world. ONE WOMAN AT A TIME

My Story

At the start of 2025 I received a message from one of my friends (Kelly Chandler) asking if I fancied joining her on a challenge later in the year. Once I heard it was a 3 day trek along the last 67km of the Camino de Santiago, and that we could select our chosen charity, it was a HELL YES.

It is true, I love walking. And in fact I have walked 28 miles for charity overnight, twice. But this challenge is more terrifying for a number of reasons not least I am older!

The challenge involves long distance treking over 3 days, long days, with a mix of terrain including hills and streams. Any walking I do is normally limited to just a few hours at a time and living in Essex means it is predominately flat.

Although I love walking, I cannot deny my body has been making it more difficult. I have issues with neck and shoulders meaning carrying my backback will be difficult. Plus knees that are stiff far beyond what is expected for my age.

Why do I mention this? Regardless of the walking I normally do each day, this challenge will be tough. And I will need to train for it both distance wise and strength training for my joints. I will share my progress over the coming months and I hope you will support me on this by donating.

The Charity

A huge part of my business life is empowering and supporting women. I do this by helping them start and grow a business.

But the thought of so many girls and women across the world suffering immense abuse and neglect makes me feel powerless.

I felt compelled to choose "One Woman at a Time" as my chosen charity who work tirelessly across the Kenya, India and the UK. Their mission statement is below.

We believe that with the right support, every woman has the power to define her future, embrace who she truly is, and create change not just for herself but for her entire community. Through education, healthcare, and emotional support, we aim to empower women to take control of their lives, one step at a time.
