I want to achieve something significant as I enter my retirement this autumn and pondered what that could be.

Then I thought why not spend the first 12 months raising awareness and funds for a worthwhile charity.

Those who know me won’t be surprised to hear that I have numerous running events lined up including Palma and Conwy half marathons in the autumn then serious training for the London and Windermere marathons in April and June. It’s likely there will be a few Ultramarathons thrown in too ‘just for fun’.

So I’m planning to wear Alfie’s Squad kit for all my events to raise awareness and get people to discuss what they do. If I can raise much needed funds along the way any contribution will be so gratefully received.

Alfie’s Squad was created by Alfie, who lost his dad to suicide when he was just eight years old. After struggling to find the right support himself, Alfie wanted to create something that could help other children and families facing the same experience.

Since launching in 2023, Alfie’s Squad has supported children and young people aged 6–17 and their families following suicide bereavement, creating safe spaces where young people can build confidence, friendships and connections with others who understand.

Every donation, big or small, will help Alfie’s Squad continue to be there for families when they need support the most.
