Story
I am running a half marathon to support Forest Sensory Services, a local charity that has made an incredible difference in my mum’s life since she became almost blind. She can now only see shadows, and often has to rely on listening carefully or reaching out her hand to touch things just to make sense of the world and connect with it. Everyday tasks and simple interactions that many of us take for granted have become a challenge, making the support, guidance, and social connection from Forest Sensory Services all the more vital. When my father was also asked to stop driving due to his eyesight, it became hard for them to stay connected and socialise, particularly without having us as a support for them. Forest Sensory Services has given them a welcoming, caring community where they can join activities, lunches, and exercise classes, meet other parents, and build friendships with people facing similar challenges. The support, kindness, and opportunities for social connection they have received have meant so much to them—and to our family. I am running this half marathon to show my gratitude and to help ensure that this amazing charity can continue giving independence, friendship, and joy to others who need it.
