Story
Nerve Tumours are tumours that are found in the body and on rare occasions can turn cancerous. They are a result of a genetic condition which often runs in the male side of the family. My Grandad had NF1, and so did my uncle. Unfortunately, my uncle had a nerve tumour in his lung which turned cancerous, and in 2018 we lost him. My other uncle and cousin also have NF1 and continue to live with the condition, and my cousin has learning difficulties as a result of NF1. I am setting myself this challenge to support my family and everything they have been through and continue to go through living with this condition.
I'm supporting Nerve Tumours UK because their mission means a great deal to me. They provide crucial support to people living with the Neurofibromatoses- the conditons that cause nerve tumours.
They are dominant genetic conditions, which means that they can be passed on in families from one generation to the next through genetic inheritance. Similarly, about half of nerve tumours cases recorded have no previous family history of the condition. In other words, it can occur totally “out of the blue”.
Any help is kindly appreciated 🤍
