We are Running The Wall for Palestine between 25th-27th April 2025!

Story

On Friday 25th April, 10,000 Palestinian runners were due to be pounding the streets of Bethlehem for the 10th annual Palestine Marathon. However, the marathon has been postponed due to the current situation in Palestine.

Last year, I had the privilege of spending two months living in Bethlehem, crossing the Wall to work in Jerusalem. One of the many groups of inspirational people whom I met while I was there were the members of Right To Movement Palestine (RTM), the founding group of the Palestine Marathon.

Two years ago, you could not travel more than a 10km stretch in the West Bank without reaching a checkpoint. Since the 7th October and the outbreak of the Gaza War, Israel's military crackdown in the West Bank has made even this nigh on impossible. In a situation trying to encircle the Palestinians into ever-smaller areas of land, RTM's commitment to movement is a stand against the occupation.

On returning to university in Leeds, I began training for the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge on 26th April; 24-miles (38.6km) with 1585m (5200ft) of ascent across the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Tripping over the Yorkshire footpaths, without even needing to carry an ID or worry about my right to exist in the land I was running through, left me feeling like the very ground felt complacent in its peace.

Having a right to movement is not just having the ability to run.

It is about having the ability to access the land that your family have farmed for generations.

It is about your children being able to travel in safety on a bus to and from primary school without being stopped and searched by armed soldiers.

It is about being able to reach your places of worship without having to apply for a permit which is almost inevitably going to be refused.

It is about having the right to exist in peace.

As the genocide in Gaza increases and the IDF clamp down in the West Bank, it’s more important than ever that we run in solidarity with our friends in Palestine. That we run for peace.

I am joining thousands of people around the world who are Running the Wall for Palestine over the weekend of 25th-27th April. I am Running the Wall...

- As an act of solidarity with Palestinians

- To demand Freedom of Movement for Palestinians

- To demand the British government implements International Law and stops arming Israel.

I are fundraising for Amos Trust's Emergency Appeal for Gaza and the West Bank. Amos Trust has been working in the West Bank and Gaza for over 30 years. Find out more here: https://www.amostrust.org/give/emergency-appeal-for-gaza/
