As  some of you may know in 2014 I became a child in care. Going through this transition, dealing with countless professionals and leaving everything that I knew to start again was  traumatic and is an experience that will always stay with me. 

It is only in the last 3 years that things have changed for me and this experience has become more positive. Finally I have found my forever home where I feel accepted and valued, and for that I am and will be forever grateful.

July 2023 will be my last month in care and so I am going to be walking 180 miles during this month, to raise money for Pure Insight. Pure insight is a local charity that was founded in 2013 to support young people of my age, preparing to leave the care system and sadly don’t have the support I have which is needed. Pure insight focuses on supporting local care leavers around Greater Manchester and Warrington with developing coping strategies and new skills to aid them to live an independent and happy life.For example statistics show that due to lack of such support only 6% of care leavers remain in higher education post 19 years of age.

Over the last few months I’ve seen first hand how hard preparing for transition from being a part of this system to leaving, it can be. I have chosen this charity as it is relevant to my current situation. Whilst some of these challenges aren’t so personal to me, I of course recognise many other people, are not in such a fortunate position as myself.
