As an Ambassador for Free to Run, I am challenging myself to run my first ever ultra trail marathon in Penacova, Portugal on 1 September 2024.

FREE TO RUN'S MISSION: To advance gender equity globally, through running. We do this by supporting the leadership, agency and health of adolescent girls and young women living in conflict areas to change gender norms in their community, through running and rights-based programs.
WHY GIRLS IN CONFLICT AREAS? Conflicts have a devastating impact on societies, causing suffering on a widespread scale. Women and girls are typically disproportionately affected. Humanitarian and development services focus on either women (adults) or children (primary aged). The rights of adolescent girls are often overlooked at a most critical time of their development.
WHO ARE THESE GIRLS? Average age: 16; 25% are out of school and 75% are in school; 89% of participants live in Iraq, 11% live in Afghanistan; 100% identify as girls or young women.
