Story
Martha was diagnosed with Polyarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) in July this year. JIA is an autoimmune condition that attacks the joints and eyes in children. It affects 1 in 1600 young people and causes chronic joint pain, swelling and stiffness.
For Martha, JIA isn't just an occasional ache— simple daily activities like getting dressed, holding a pen, and just running in the playground are a struggle for her. There is no cure for JIA and to manage her condition, she now has a strict schedule of hospital appointments, blood tests and lots of medications, which includes regular injections and other treatments, all aimed at slowing the disease and reducing inflammation.
To turn her diagnosis into something positive, she's showing her determination by taking part in the 5K Santa Run in Southsea on 20th December to raise vital funds for Juvenile Arthritis Research.
This is a huge commitment for Martha, requiring immense grit and determination. She is running to help JAR, an amazing charity that does crucial work providing support, information, and a community for children and families affected by JIA.
Please support Martha's challenging run and help JAR continue their invaluable work. Your donation will make a real difference in the lives of children—like Martha—living with arthritis.
