Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

On the 15th of October myself and Helen will be running the Bath Half for cancer research, for my sister.

Me and Helen will now also be joined by my cousin nick!! He plans on adding some weight, to even the playing field 😅

In 2017 my sister was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. She had surgery, chemo and radiotherapy for this. She was almost at 5 years cancer free, but in 2022 just before her 5 year benchmark, a tiny met was found in her brain. She underwent gama knife treatment for this and this was thought to be successful. Unfortunately, in March 2023 things took a turn for the worse, and she was sadly diagnosed with  Leptomeningeal disease. This is a progressive disease , with limited treatment options. Cancer treatment has come a long way and thankfully people are living longer and longer. However, this may mean we start to see more secondary cancers such as Leptomeningeal disease. The NHS is doing an amazing job in cancer care and treatment but more research is definitely needed.I hope one day more treatment options can be found for this terrible disease. Leptomeningeal disease is tricky to diagnose as it is not always seen on MRI , therefore I would also like to see a better awareness of this disease as early diagnosis and treatment is key for a better quality of life.
