Personal story:-
My name is Beth and I was diagnosed with Lupus in October 2015. Lupus has had a profound impact on my life, and not necessarily for the better.
If you don't know what Lupus is, don't worry, you're not alone! I'll summarise: Lupus is a chronic (long-term) disease that can cause inflammation and pain in any part of your body. It’s an autoimmune disease, which means that your immune system — the body system that usually fights infections — attacks healthy tissue instead. (for me, Lupus attacks my skin, joints and now my eyes)
I have Systemic Lupus Erythematosus - the most common form of Lupus.
Lupus is more common than people think it is, but the diagnosis time takes a lot longer due to lack of awareness or lack of funding into research. Not only that, but there is little support out there for people with Lupus or seeking diagnosis, but Lupus UK provide a lot of that support to the Lupus community.
Thank you for being here to cheer us on during the 12 hour stream, my community and I appreciate your donations and time.
