Story
First of all, thank you for even clicking to read my story!
The Miscarriage Association is a national charity that offers support and information to anyone affected by miscarriage, ectopic or molar pregnancy.
I'm a non-runner, so anyone that knows me will know this is a big deal to commit to a half-marathon - it is not my idea of fun! Not only will I be running for myself but for every friend and person that has had to deal with pregnancy loss and hope that in sharing my story, others will feel less alone.
My journey to having children has not been easy, my first two pregnancies ended in early miscarriage. I was then blessed with my miracle son (despite being a threatened miscarriage) who is my reason to keep going! When the time came to want to give him a sibling in early 2025, I suffered a miscarriage that resulted in emergency surgery.
After a lot of work to heal both physically and mentally, I fell pregnant again in October 2025 but this was diagnosed as a rare type of ruptured ectopic pregnancy. Despite displaying the classic symptoms, unfortunately my care fell short and I was left in hospital with internal bleeding - I lost 3L of blood which lead to emergency open surgery and a stay in ICU, I was told I'm very lucky to be here today.
Whilst this was obviously difficult for me, my husband became a full time carer for me whilst juggling a toddler and full-time job over night. It's not been easy for either of us and I hope that partners too can reach out if they need support.
The Great North Run will mark nearly a year since I was very poorly and bed bound in ICU - so I'm running this to show myself how far I've come, but also for every single person affected by pregnancy loss.
My aim is to raise at least £400 (£100 for each of my losses) to help the the Miscarriage Association ensure that everyone affected by pregnancy loss receives the care, support and information that they need.
Thank you so much <3
