Story
Hey lovely people!
In just a few months, us Hockens will be supporting CALM by taking part in their 'Trek for Tomorrow'. We’ll honouring Alex, who would have been 40 this year.
It takes place on Sunday, September 7th, 2025, in the Peak District, with a 30km trek. I need your help.
My big bro lost his life to an overdose in 2016. He is amongst 125 people who take their own lives, every week, in the UK. 125 too many.
Alex loved being out in nature, whether it was cycling up mammoth hills in the West Country, climbing the cliffs in Sheffield, diving on the shorelines of Bristol or surfing the biggest Cornish waves (a hard task when they're so few and far between). I know being out in nature is also what got me through my grief.
To honour the power of community and of nature, and to celebrate what would have been Alex’s 40th year, the fam and I are joining a whole host of people affected by suicide and trekking through the beautiful Peaks - a place Alex loved.
We're trekking for the tomorrow Alex didn't get and for the tomorrow we all deserve.
Let’s lift the silence and disconnection of the taboo that enables suicide and make sure no one feels alone or like their life isn’t worth saving. Everyone deserves to be here - some people just need a little reminder. Let’s save a life.
We’ll be raising money for CALM, a charity that shouts about and connects people to, and around, this important issue.
I know living costs are ridiculously expensive right now but we’d love your support. Anything you can give 💫
As Alex used to say, peas and love!
